During my parent's visit to Scotland, we visited Scone Palace (pronounced Skoon). This was the crowning site of Scottish Kings since the 9th century until the 15th century. It is still occupied today by some lucky older couple. I'm not sure of their names, but they must have inherited it somehow. They also must be quite wealthy.
Another interesting fact: "The grounds of the palace were the birthplace of the Douglas-fir tree species, after being introduced by David Douglas." (taken from Wikipedia). I suppose this quote is true, but since it is from Wikipedia no one can be sure.
Needless to say, the place is quite beautiful and massive! My dad even went shooting there some years ago as they lease the land to hunters. By the way, shooting and hunting are two different things in Scotland. You'll have to ask my dad if you want to know the difference. The grounds are also home to beautiful peacocks that we enjoyed seeing. If you are ever in the area, it is worth a stop.
